Transversal Book
Seville, 2010
A spatial itinerary turned into a object book.
This book compiles the proposals that were submitted to the competition The Transversal of the BIACS, organized for the Biennial of Contemporary Art of Seville, BIACS3-Youniverse.
We were in charge of the editorial concept and coordinated the entire process of gathering the materials and designing it. The challenge was to edit an object book that delved into the material possibilities of a publication in print, in contrast with digital publications.
The book incorporates into its structure the itinerary established by the five winning interventions between five locations of the city during the celebration of the BIACS3: the façades of the ICAS and of the Faculty of Fine Arts on Calle Laraña, the courtyards of the Architect’s Institute of Seville, of the headquarters of EMASESA and of the Faculty of Fine Arts on Calle Gonzalo Bilbao. The spaces are also reflected and superimposed on the cover of the book.
The itinerary followed the West-East axis that crosses the historic centre of Seville. The chapters are organized as spaces for reflection, in which the capacity of transformation of each of these everyday locations can be seen, showing what they became, in an extraordinary way, for sixty five days, as well as what they could have been by showing the rest of the ideas presented. The book also includes three essays about the experience.
