Passeig Bernardí Martorell
Barcelona, 2004
Estrangement and celebration.
The intervention is a celebration of the agricultural origins of the Raval and of the narrow, tall and long spatiality of the passageway itself: a soft pavement, six svelte palm trees, a ladder that reaches up towards the sky and a wall-mounted fish tank compose this urban provocation.
The connection of the neighborhood with the sea is the reason for the existence of the passageway which, like others, was inserted in the urban fabric with that in mind. The surrealist endless ladder made of light that leans against one of the palms and reaches up to the sky recalls, in another dimension, those good intentions.
Following the instructions provided by Gabriel García Márquez in one of his tales, the six palm trees would arrive flying over the city, carried by helicopters, ready to be placed in the passageway.
